Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

How search engines work
Search engines have three major functions: crawling the web, generating an index from the information retrieved and then providing a ranked list of the websites they’ve determined are the most relevant to the search terms entered. To reach the billions of interconnected documents and sites on the web, search engines’ have automated robots, called “crawlers” or “spiders”. When a person performs an online search, the search engine returns those results that are relevant to the searcher’s query and then ranks those results according to the popularity of the websites. SEO is meant to influence both relevance and popularity.

The most popular search engines are Google, Bing, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves, AOL search, WOW, WebCrawler, MyWebSearch, Infospace, info, and DuckDuckGo. Algoma Web Design adheres to the webmaster guidelines set forth by Google due to the fact it is the most popular search engine currently available.

Using Keywords
One of the best methods of search engine optimization we will cover in this article is the use of keywords and key phrases and why they are so important. Keywords are not the only means of optimizing your website, however keywords are fundamental to search engines because they keep track of the pages in a keyword based database. Each keyword term allow the engines to retrieve the data in a fraction of a second from the keyword-based indexes. To ensure your keywords and phrases are visible to search engines they are added in the HTML text on the page during the development. Some of the keywords will not be visible to your visitors and instead are embedded in images, descriptions, titles, etc. We develop a crawl-able link structure for search engines to crawl the pathways of your website to find your content. Your text of your website, among other things is very important for the optimization of a website for search engines.
